About

Almost two decades as a staff writer and editor at Canadian Living one of Canada’s largest periodicals — taught me how to tackle all sorts of stories — full-length features, columns, first-person essays, short profiles, DIY how-tos, and quick-hit sidebars and service pieces — and sharpened my research, interviewing, copy-editing, proofreading and display-writing skills, as well. Planning lineups made me a media watcher who keeps an eye out for coming trends, new contributors and the Canadian angle. Shaping each piece helped me offer readers more than one entry point on any page. And, for me, working with writers, words and ideas to tell any kind of story was, and is, simply the best.

I’ve also continued freelance writing and editing. I have worked for magazines (such as Fresh Juice, Good Times, Homemakers,
Quill & Quire, Style At Home,
 The Old Farmer’s Almanac and
U of T Magazine), book publishers (such as Firefly, Formac Lorimer, Key Porter, Kids Can Press, Ningwakwe Learning Press and Robert Rose) and corporate clients — to produce clear and
compelling stories, concise copy, and service pieces packed with information and reader takeaway — which makes me adept at matching house styles, format and tone.

While a wide array of work keeps me challenged, my own ongoing interests give me an edge when working with gardening, food writing, crafts and DIY.
